Flowering currant (Ribes sanguineum) has hanging clusters of tubular flowers, in shades of white, pink or crimson, which hang from gracefully arching branches in March and April and provide lots of early nectar for bees. Mahonia, or Oregon grape, is a handsome evergreen shrub that looks good all year round.
