Crochet Flower Granny Square Pattern + Video - Winding Road Crochet (2024)

This crochet flower granny square is so pretty that it really deserves a project to use it on. I was going to do a beautiful pattern for a Mother’s Day Crochet along and it had to be canceled. Since the square was so lovely, I thought I would share it with you now. Maybe this fall we can use it for a pretty pattern.

Below you will find the written pattern for this granny square as well as a video tutorial. Make sure to read the notes on how to change the stitch count of this square to make it easier to use in your projects.

There are also instructions for how to get the premium printable PDF pattern for free.

Crochet Flower Granny Square

This is the first time I have ever designed a crochet granny square. I have to say the challenge was invigorating. This pattern was designed to work with a beautiful shawl, will look amazing in a blanket or afghan, and bordering other projects.

Picking Your Granny Square Colors

I tried several color combinations for this flower granny square. I think that the flower looks wonderful in a solid color and as a two-toned flower. Below you can see the pattern worked in several different color combinations.

Stitches Used in the Crochet Flower Granny Square

I would love to tell you that this is an easy crochet pattern, but besides the solid granny square, I don’t really feel like any granny square will fit in that category.

For this crochet flower granny square, you will need to know how to do all the basic stitches from single crochet to treble crochet. You will also need to know how to double crochet 2 stitches together and make a cluster stitch. There are written instructions for these stitches below. They are also demonstrated in the video tutorial.

Row 5: (With White) SLST to any corner, CH2, *(2DC, CH2, 2DC) into the CH2 corner, DC into the next 2 STs, Work 4 Dc into the CH 4 Space, Skip the next ST, Work 4 DC into the next CH 4 Space. Work a DC into the next 2 STs.* repeat from *to* a total of 4 times. SLST to the first DC. Fasten off. Weave in your ends.

Note: The final square has an even number of stitches on each side. If you want to have an odd number of stitches in order to fit the square into a project then in Row 5 simply work a double crochet into the half double crochet of Row 4 instead of skipping the stitch.

Your crochet flower granny square is complete. Make as many as you need for your project. Sew them together to make a light airy blanket.
